Independence Day of the Nation is a very significant day and SYMA has been conducting Eye Camp on this important for over 10 years now.
The morning started with hoisting of National Flag at our Medical Centre. The kids organized by Mrs Prema Krishnamohan of Soundarya Rathinamala rendered mellifluous songs. Mr Babu, CEO of Pammal Sankara Eye Hospital hoisted the flag. Sweets were distributed to all those present.
At 9.00am we assembled at Sri Seervi Samaj Bhavan (next to Aanjaneya Swami temple) 0pp to V House Bus Terminus where our Eye camp for detection of cataract was held. The Eye camp was organized jointly with Pammal Sri Sankara Eye Hospital, Lions Club of Chennai, Sri Kanchikamakoti Sankara Medical Trust and Seervi Samaj.
The Chief Guest was Mr Mohan Ram, a famous cine artist and well known for his roles in soap operas in TV. He holds a MBA, is interested in philately, social activist and a keen organizer of Chennai day festivities. The function started with a prayer.

welcomed the gathering. Our President TA Sampathkumar spoke about SYMA and its various activities. R Kannan spoke on behalf of Sri Kanchikamakoti Sankara Medical Trust . Mr Babu detailed about the troubles that could ail vision , of the activities of Pammal Sankara Hospital. Mr Mohan Ram felt very happy to note the actitivies of SYMA and advised us the need to continue the poor in the locality and cautioned us on expanding our reach to distant places, as there is possibility of losing the goal and start expending more on administration. Our Secretary R Sanjeevi proposed the vote of thanks
More than 250 persons had registered in the camp. Around 200 were screened. 25 persons were prescribed spectacles – which will be given free by SYMA – in memory of our beloved Raghavan, who was snatched away from our midst 3 years ago. 24 persons were detected with eye problems requiring surgical treatment for cataract. They were provided meals and were taken to Pammal Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal wherein they would be surgically treated tomorrow. The cataract surgery would be conducted free of cost and they would be transported back early on Tuesday.
We at SYMA continue to strive for the betterment of society and provide helping hand to the poor and needy.

26 Jan 10 : Cancer Detection Camp for Ladies in association with Kamakshi Hospital and Rotary club K.K.Nagar. 34 patients were screened and benefited through this camp.
30 Sep 09 : Asthma Camp was conducted in association with Cipla Ltd. Around 70 persons benefited. 15 Aug-09 : Free Cataract detection cum Operation camp was organized at SHG Terapanthi Bhavan, in association with the Lions Club of Chennai Venus and Sri Sankara Eye Hospital , Pammal. Around 190 people were screened of which 23 performed Cataract Surgery and 28 were provided with Spectacles.
To ensure Quality health to the economically challenged at affordable cost, we run a medical centre, in association with Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust. The patients are treated at a nominal cost of Rs 2/- per visit. The centre has so far clocked around 1,00,000 patient visits. Our free Medical camps, conducted on a regular basis, have benefited around 2500 persons.
15 Aug-08 : Free cataract detection cum operation camp was organized at SHG Terapanthi Bavan, in association with the Lions Club of Chennai Venus and Sri Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal. Around 159 people were screened and cataract operation was performed on 26 of them & Around 30 of them was provided spectacles.
24 Feb 08 : Diabetes awareness and detection camp was organized jointly with Sri Kanchi Sankara Foundation. The camp was held at our medical centre and more than 150 persons were screened. 02 Oct 07 : We paid homage to Mahatma by conducting a medical camp. This camp is for the detection of diabetes in association with Sri Kanchi Sankara Foundation & Lions Club of Chennai Venus jointly and was conducted at the KSF Lab at SYMA Medical Centre.

25 Mar 07 : We have participated in Dental Camp which was organized by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust around 200 people took treatment. We thank Students of Meenakshi Ammal Dental College conducting this camp.
24 Dec 06 : Diabetes awareness and detection camp was organized jointly with Indian Overseas Bank – Triplicane. The camp was held at our medical centre and more than 200 persons were screened. We thank Indian Overseas bank, Triplicane and Dr. Madhuri Balaji of Dr. V Seshiah Diabetes care & Research Institute for conducting this camp
02 Oct 06 : Organized general awareness on Heart disease. Dr. V Sokkalingam M B B S., M.D., D.M. explained about Heart Disease & prevention.
15 Aug-06 : Free cataract detection cum operation camp was organized at SHG Terapanthi Bavan, in association with the Lions Club of Chennai Venus, Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust and Sri Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal. Around 136 people were screened and cataract operation was performed on 27 of them.
28 May 2006: A diabetic camp was held in association with Dr. V Seshaiah Diabetic Care and Research Institute (Dr Madhuri Balaji), Kilpauk at the SYMA Medical Centre.

05 Mar 2006 : A Blood donation camp was organized in association with Lions Club of Avishkar at SYMA Medical Centre. Around 50 persons donated blood. Mr Badrinath (Vasavi Constructions and President of Lions Club of Avishkar) coordinated with the Lions Blood Bank and brought a mobile blood breeding van.
Feb 2006: SYMA Medical Centre (affiliated to Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust) was renovated with the help of Mr. Prasad (Vasavi Builders), Mr. Narasimhan (Simha Builders) and Govindarajan (Painting Contractor). A nurse was appointed on a part-time basis to assist the doctors and to impart injection on the patients. The centre serves around 50 patients everyday.
26 Jan 2006 : Free Asthma Detection Camp was held in association with Lions Club of Chennai Venus at SYMA Medical Centre. Around 150 persons were screened out of which 80 were found affected by Asthma.
15 Aug 2005 : Free cataract detection cum operation camp was organized at SHG Terapanthi Bavan, in association with the Lions Club of Chennai Venus, Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust and Sri Sankara Eye Hospital , Pammal. Around 100 people were screened and cataract operation was performed on 20 of them.
13 Mar 2005 : A special pooja was held to mark the extension of SYMA Medical Centre.
Mr. Suresh (J.K.Foundation - Bricks), Mr Narasimhan (Simha Builders- Cement), Mr.Ponraj (Sand), Mr Sridhar(Electrical Items) , Mr R.Kannan (False Ceiling), Mr. Prasad (Vasavi Constructions – Flooring Tile) Mr Sukumar (Paints) & Enterprising Enterprises (Granites) were the principal donors. Our Members also contributed to the Building Fund.

28 Mar 1997 : A portion of the Building was constructed free of cost by Sri Badrinath (Sri Vasavi Constructions). Many poor people are availing medical facility free of cost. Many Free Health Camps are conducted regularly.
16 Aug 1989 : SYMA Medical Centre was inaugurated in affiliation with Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Medical Trust, Besant Nagar. The building that the centre runs from, belongs to
Sri Kanchi Vadikesari Alagia Manavala Jeer Mutt.
